Rini Yoshiaki, or Yoshiaki Hougaku, was a MIDI sequencer based in Kyoto who released online (likely on PC-VAN) and then later Geocities, collaborating with others in English where possible over Yahoo mailing lists. Yoshiaki appears a die-hard Sailor Moon fan, and is well-known for possessing, scanning and distributing the rare collections of official Sailor Moon sheet music. This collection was lost for many years, but was recently (mostly) rescued by Suzanne Aquilar - you can find the new collection here. Yoshiaki had a massive collection of Sailor Moon merchandise, and he not only sequenced MIDIs for much of the original Japanese soundtrack, but some tracks from the DiC dub as well. The timestamps on Yoshiaki's music are known thanks to Alvin, a young Russian MIDI sequencer who developed an advanced MIDI player on his website in the late 90s. This means Yoshiaki voluntarily passed his music to Alvin. Since we know Rini was sequencing as early as 1992, he was probably distributing this music on the PC-98 forums (which he mentions in passing on his BBS board). Yoshiaki posted on his BBS with some regularity until 2013, after which he disappeared and allowed his domain to expire. It's hoped that Yoshiaki is still in good health, as many of us benefit from his scans, and his MIDIs nourished a whole generation of fans outside of Japan, as his website was available in English and he was highly involved in English-speaking social circles. He also documented some early conventions in Japan, the merchandise of the time, and dub changes by country. It's possible he is no longer with us, and for this reason, there is a little memorial here. If you would like to say thank you or a goodbye to Rini, for the efforts he put into all these MIDIs and distributing this sheet music for free, I have put a dedicated guestbook to him below. ### My Personal Rating Effort: 5 stars Yoshiaki covered a vast amount of the Sailor Moon soundtrack. Accuracy: 4 stars Rini's music wasn't often in the latest and greatest formats, which is precisely why they were easy MIDIs for most machines to play. Personal Style: 4 stars Rini's website is super cute and throughout the years contains a number of fun backgrounds, as well as dress-ups from the KISS dress up program.
